Overview Training
Our overview training is designed to provide a broad basic knowledge of Down syndrome and the impact this may have in the education environment. It is designed for staff working in the relevant settings and for parents to support their child at home. The topics in this section are;
Promoting the development of pre-school children with Down syndrome (birth to school age)
This training day reviews the learning strengths and areas of difficulty associated with having Down syndrome as well as the evidence to support successful interventions and learning techniques. It provides three in-depth workshop sessions; promoting speech, language and communication skills from the beginning; supporting cognitive development and encouraging play skills; and encouraging positive social skills and managing challenging behaviour. The day provides practical ideas and activities to promote development both at home and in the pre-school setting.
