Nursery Support
LETS Go! Nursery Support Service is offered as a one day consultancy or an annual ongoing service. We provide our nursery service privately to schools and families as well as delivering nursery outreach services organised and funded by charities and local support groups.
Annual Nursery Support Service
Evidence shows that children with Down syndrome benefit from inclusive settings. Our nursery support service is designed to provide information and advice on early inclusion and support nurseries to implement activities to promote early development. Information and advice is also provided around the learning profile associated with Down syndrome, areas of strength and difficulty, stages of development and relevant services.
Overview:
We offer a termly half day visit to pre-school settings. Listed below is an example of a typical visit, however, the visit can be modified depending on the requirements of the individual child, family and setting at the time of the visit.
The visit:
Recommendation Sheet:
A summary sheet based on the visit will be provided to pre-school and shared with families. This recommendation sheet will include observations, discussions and recommendations from the visit. These recommendations will be based on the knowledge, training and experience of specialist advisor.
Topic Sheets:
LETS Go! has a series of Topic Sheets developed for pre-school settings. These Topic Sheets are specifically designed for children with Down syndrome and cover a range of topics relevant to the pre-school years. These Topic Sheets include a brief overview of the topic and the research on children with Down syndrome. They also include suggestions of activities, strategies and resources that may benefit pre-school children with Down syndrome. The topics include speech and language, communication, fine motor skills, numeracy and Numicon, early reading and See and Learn as well as behaviour. One of these topics will form the focus of each visit however the order is dependent on the child and/or setting and the activities in the 1:1 session will cover a range of activities.
A Half Day Nursery Consultancy
Overview:
A one off half day nursery consultancy is also offered to pre-schools including children with Down syndrome. This service is particularly designed for families and pre-schools who are further away and/or who do not currently receive a specialist Down syndrome support service. The nursery support service is designed to be flexible to meet the needs of the child and the pre-school at the time of the visit. Listed below is an example of a typical visit, however, the visit can be modified depending on the requirements of the individual child, family and pre-school at the time of the visit.
The visit:

Observation of the child in their pre-school setting, following the daily routine and interacting with peers and adults.

One-to-one session focussing on the child’s current development and identifying appropriate targets.

Discussion and modelling of activities, strategies and resources for pre-school staff

Support, information and advice for staff and parents on early speech, language, literacy and numeracy development, social development and friendships as well as behaviour management.

Verbal feedback to staff will be provided at the end of the visit, parents are welcome to join this feedback session.

Summary:
A written report will be provided following the visit. This report will include the observations from the visit, the activities modelled in the 1:1 session and the recommendations for targets and strategies discussed at the end of the visit.
